Learn the rules of Ludo

Start Ludo by looking at the playing area and its controls. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Look at what changes after your first action. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Give this approach a try

Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow. Refer to the controls when needed.

The objective of a round

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

A walkthrough of the rules

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

The controls to know

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

See the idea in action

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Check this before moving on

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention.
