Making your first moves in Snake

Snake gives you a focused activity to play in your browser. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Try a more deliberate round

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Make the next step deliberately.

The challenge in front of you

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

From the start of a round

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Your inputs

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. Use the control method described here for this activity. Look at the feedback after the action.

A closer look at one example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Take a moment to compare.

An important reminder

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
