A practical guide to Golf Solitaire

Read the aim of Golf Solitaire, then make your first move. Remove all 35 tableau cards. Use the example below to understand a decision. Read the objective before making your first input. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Seven columns of five, one stock pass. Free solo play, no wagering.

An idea for your next attempt

Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal. Keep the objective visible.

The goal to keep in mind

Remove all 35 tableau cards. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

The steps to play

  1. Take an exposed bottom card one rank above or below the waste top, allowing ace–king wrapping.
  2. Click an exposed card or eligible pair to remove it.
  3. Draw when useful.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Using the playing area

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

See the idea in action

Waste queen accepts jack or king. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Consider the next action carefully.

Notice this detail

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
